About NW PA Pet Emergency Center

Established in 2001, NW PA Pet Emergency Center was started by a group of local veterinarians who wanted to provide the highest quality afterhours emergency pet care in the greater Erie, PA area. An emergency vet and full technician staff are present at all times. That way, we can effectively treat and monitor critically ill or injured patients.

We do not act as a replacement for your regular veterinarian. Rather, we assist your veterinarian by providing the critical veterinary trauma care and emergency veterinary services needed at night, on weekends and holiday hours.

We will be the spokesperson for your pet. We see it as our professional, moral, and ethical duty to educate you about your pet’s health. However, we encourage you to decide what level of care you want to provide for your pet. Our mission is to facilitate a balance between providing the best possible care for the pet while remembering that the decisions regarding medical care have an impact on the entire family.

Our Team

Dr. Christman received his veterinary degree from Auburn University in 1998. Following graduation, he joined a large animal practice for two years in Northeastern Pennsylvania. In 2000, he moved to Warren County and joined a mixed animal practice. In December of 2004, Dr. Christman accepted a full time position at the Northwest PA Pet Emergency Center. Dr. Christman's areas of interest include shock/trauma, internal medicine, emergency surgery, and diagnostic sonography. He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA), and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS).

Dr. Christman has four children and currently resides in Russell, PA with his wife; their three cats all rescued from the local area, Baby, Hobart, and Lucifer; and a Papillon, Maggie. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities.

Mackenzie Meyer MPH, DVM

Received a Bachelor of Science degree from Brockport State University where she was selected to receive the highest award given to a graduate: the NY State Chancellor Award for excellence in academics and community contribution.

She attended Michigan State University where she earned a dual degree, a Master of Public Health and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She was awarded an internship at the USDA and has an interest in infectious and zoonotic diseases, theriogenology and of course, emergency medicine.

Dr. Meyer joined the team at NW Pet Emergency in 2018 and has appreciated working in a community where emergency doctors are both needed and appreciated. “When pets aren’t doing well, their people aren’t either. When we can help pets be the best they can be, we are enabling their owners to do the same. I am fortunate to serve such a great community and work with an incredibly compassionate and professional staff at NW Pet Emergency” says Dr. Meyer.

An outdoor enthusiast and “foodie,” Dr. Meyer enjoys kayaking, traveling, and experimenting with new recipes. She has a cat, “Jake” who has the best personality and the worst-sounding meow. Dr. Meyer’s mom is a Veterinary Hospital Administrator for a surgical practice in North Carolina.
